Meet and Greet Explained: What Is Meet and Greet at the Airport and Is It Worth It?

Arriving at the Airport Does Not Have to Be Stressful

After a long flight, the last thing most travellers want is confusion.

You have just landed at Heathrow Airport, you are tired, possibly carrying heavy luggage and suddenly faced with crowds, signs and the question: where do I go now?

This is exactly where an airport Meet and Greet service makes a difference.

This guide explains exactly what Meet and Greet is, how it works and whether it is the right choice for your next arrival.

Instead of navigating the terminal on your own or trying to locate a driver outside, everything is arranged for you before you even land. With over 20 years of experience, more than 5 million passengers served and a TripAdvisor Travellers Choice award, London Heathrow Cars has been delivering professional Meet and Greet airport transfers across all major London airports since 2004.

What Is Meet and Greet at the Airport?

Meet and Greet is an airport pickup service where your driver enters the terminal and meets you inside the arrivals hall, rather than waiting outside at a kerbside pickup point. Your driver will be standing in the arrivals hall with a name board, ready to assist with your luggage and guide you directly to your vehicle.

It removes the need to search for your driver, wait outside in all weather conditions or coordinate pickup over the phone after a long journey.

What It Actually Feels Like

Once your flight lands, the process follows the usual route through passport control, baggage reclaim and customs.

But this is where the experience becomes different.

As you walk into the arrivals hall, instead of looking around trying to figure out your next step, you immediately see your name displayed clearly on a name board. Your driver greets you professionally, takes care of your luggage and calmly leads you out of the terminal and directly to your vehicle.

There is no confusion, no waiting outside and no unnecessary stress. Just a smooth, comfortable transition from plane to car.

For passengers arriving at Heathrow, our drivers are positioned at the following meeting points:

  • Terminal 2: WHSmith for international arrivals, Cafe Nero for domestic arrivals.
  • Terminal 3: WHSmith in the arrivals hall
  • Terminal 4: Costa Coffee for international arrivals, Giraffe Coffee for domestic arrivals
  • Terminal 5: Costa Coffee for international arrivals, Giraffe Coffee for domestic arrivals

Meet and Greet vs Call on Arrival: What Is the Difference?

London Heathrow Cars offers two airport collection options. Understanding the difference helps you choose the right one for your journey.

Meet and Greet is our most popular service. Your driver parks the vehicle and enters the terminal to meet you inside the arrivals hall with a name board. Everything is in place the moment you walk through from customs. There is nothing for you to do except collect your luggage and follow your driver.

Call on Arrival is designed for passengers who do not mind a short wait and prefer a more relaxed arrival experience. Here is how it works: your driver becomes available from one hour after your flight lands. This means if you clear passport control and collect your luggage in under an hour, your driver may not yet be at the airport. Once you have collected your luggage and cleared customs, you contact us to let us know you are ready. We will then dispatch your driver, who will park the vehicle and make their way inside the terminal to meet you in the arrivals hall with a name board. Please allow up to 20 minutes from your call to your driver reaching you. In total, the maximum wait from landing to meeting your driver is approximately 80 minutes and in most cases considerably less. This option works well for passengers who are happy to take their time coming through arrivals without feeling rushed.

In both cases, your driver will always meet you inside the arrivals hall. You will never be asked to meet your driver in a car park or outside the terminal building. For a full breakdown of both services, read our Heathrow Airport Pickup Guide.

Is Meet and Greet Worth It?

For most travellers, yes.

Meet and Greet is particularly valuable in the following situations:

  • Arriving after a long-haul or overnight flight when you are tired and want everything handled
  • Travelling with children where keeping the group together matters
  • Carrying multiple suitcases or oversized luggage where assistance is appreciated
  • Visiting the UK for the first time and unfamiliar with Heathrow Airport
  • Travelling for business where time, reliability and professional presentation are important

If you are travelling light, arriving on a short domestic flight and know the airport well, Call on Arrival may suit you just as well. However for ease, comfort and complete peace of mind, Meet and Greet remains the preferred choice for the majority of our passengers.

What About Flight Delays?

One of the most common concerns when booking an airport pickup is timing.

Flights can be delayed, diverted or rescheduled and arrival times frequently change.

With London Heathrow Cars, your flight is monitored in real time. If your flight is delayed, your driver adjusts automatically. You will not be penalised for delays caused by the airline and you will not be charged additional waiting time as a result.

Simply land, clear the airport at your own pace and your driver will be there.
